Flat feet is a medical condition, where the sole of the foot collapses and comes in close contact to the ground when standing.  Flat feet can occur in children, but commonly occurs after an injury or over time with age.

Some pains associated with flat feet are calf muscle pain and knee joint pain.  These pains can start mild, but over time can become severe and reduce mobility.

There are a couple treatment options.  One of the most common is to wear prescription orthotics.  These are shoe inserts that are custom made for the patient’s specific needs.  Surgery can be needed in some cases.  The surgery is known as a reduction of flat foot deformity depending if the foot is flexible or rigid.  You should consult a podiatrist for diagnosis and treatment.
